Wissahickon Martin Luther King Jr. Volunteer Day of Service
1000 Kitchens Ln #3738, Philadelphia, PA 19119
January 19th
9:00am – 12:00pm
Meeting at Monastery Stables. There will be parking onsite at the Stables. Please note that there will NOT be bathroom access during the service day. Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: what are you doing for others?” By volunteering on this day, we will be giving back to our park, its users, the creek, and the plants and animals that rely on it to live. This year, we will be completing a variety of projects around Monastery Stables, including removing invasive vines and cleaning up litter. This will not only make this area of the park more beautiful, but it will keep our watershed healthier for all! All are welcome to attend, and no experience is needed. We encourage attendees to work within their own comfort level, and we always strive to accommodate needs on an individual basis. With that being said, this service day may include the following activities: • Invasive plant removal: bending over, using long handled tools • Litter clean-up We provide gloves, tools, and instruction–you just need to show up! Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and long pants, and remember to bring water with you. Detailed information and confirmation of the meeting location will be sent by email the day before the event. If you are hoping to bring a group of 5 or more people, please reach out to us first. For more information contact Marisa Miller at miller@fow.org.
