LEARN: All the reasons to love FDR Park

Now is the perfect time to fall in love (or fall in love again!) with FDR Park, South Philadelphia’s largest and most dynamic public space. FDR Park - also known as The Lakes - offers over 350 acres of lakes, fields, meadows, bridges, marshes, mystery, and magic. A unique recreational and natural landscape activated by the incredible cultural diversity of South Philadelphia, FDR Park is truly a gem of Philadelphia’s public park system.

Our friends at the Philadelphia Parks Alliance are celebrating today with the Love Your Park & Rec Center Day of Action! It's an entire day of activities you can take part in to support our civic spaces.

Please join Philadelphia Parks Alliance on Wednesday, May 13 at noon, for a live question and answer session about the essential services that Parks and Rec provides with Philadelphia City Council members Cindy Bass, Isaiah Thomas, and Jamie Gauthier. They're also hosting a live Q&A with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell at 2:00pm. Visit the Facebook live link for both events here.

You can submit your questions using the hashtag #ParksAndRecQandA or in the comments to this post before and during the live broadcast.

Habitat Restoration at Little Whitby Meadow

June 14th at 2:00pm
Little Whitby Meadow on Cobbs Creek Pkwy, PA 19143

Join Friends of Cobbs Creek to help make Little Whitby Meadow a better home for Monarch Butterflies! The Monarch Butterfly is a beautiful but threatened butterfly species that relies on Common Milkweed as its host plant. Little Whitby has a great crop of Common Milkweed (see photo), but it is under threat from invasive Wild Hops! By removing the Wild Hops, we can give a boost to the Milkweed and the Monarch Butterflies! Note: It is strongly recommended that participants wear long pants and long sleeves as we will be working in tall vegetations, and the Wild Hops can irritate the skin.
