“Detours Turn Destinations: 3 Perfect Dates brought to you by Philly Parks” by Julia Hillengas

1. The cookie cutter First Friday date becomes special the moment you suggest a detour down to the Delaware riverside. Upon entering the Race Street Pier, a sense of magic and wonderment ensnare you with the Ben Franklin bridge soaring majestically to the north and the lights twinkling off the water to the east.
2. The classic detour after a nighttime drive or bike ride along the Schuylkill is Belmont Plateau. With the best view of city, “the Plateau is where everybody goes” to escape the city and spend some special time with that certain person.
3. When the weather is just right and you don’t want the night to end just yet, a detour to almost any park, be it Rittenhouse Square after a fancy dinner, Clark Park after a house show, or Penn Treaty after an art opening, is always the way to go. With benches, trees, flowers, and sculptures there are more than enough excuses to linger and enjoy the company of your romantic friend that much longer.
Many thanks to Philadelphia Parks and Recreation for all the good times and special moments you have enabled.
